Movie Marathon Madness
When it's cold, rainy and unpleasant outside, we turn our attentions to the multiple DVD's at our disposal; those that have recently graced our shelves, and those that were acquired many moons ago, collecting dust, until the time had come to unveil them. All right, so we don't need a crappy weekend to sit on our duff to immerse ourselves in movie la-la land, but it certainly helps to seal the deal. First off was I, Robot. Very good fun, and I thought the effects were quite believable. No problem seeing Mr. Smith topless either. I was saddened by the sight of the older model robots being tucked away in containers to rust away. Creepy, fun, and I was surprised to find it to be more of a mystery than an action flick. Next up, Napoleon Dynamite. I had seen it the week before, but insisted that the other half be exposed to its crazy joys. Today was Thirteen (see the entry prior to this one), Collateral, and Kill Bill Volume 2. Collateral was a tremendously fun movie. Cruise was awesome in a villian role, and Jamie Foxx was worthy of his nomination (except it should be for lead, this was his movie. I will never understand the decisions for such placements). The highrise hide and seek and the subway chase were excellent! I was actually saddened by the ending. Who'd of thought? Finally, Kill Bill Volume 2. I really liked the first one better. This was a bit more talky than I would have expected, and the action seemed smaller scale. I still loved it, but it did not reach the heights of the first. Daryl Hannah's chapter, "Elle and I" (loved the pun!) was the best scene, and the eyeball gag made me gag. Ah the joys of sitting in front of the television, blissfully letting someone else do the thinking for you. Thank you filmmakers. Is it Monday already?
