Some Thoughts on Katrina
1. I know you are only doing what comes naturally, but Katrina...you are a bitch.
2. I have been glued to the television since Sunday. Why do I torture myself? It is horrendous and nasty and violent, but I cannot turn away.
3. The looters. If you are stealing food and drink, good for you. You not only have common sense, but a normal survival instinct. For those stealing toys, guns, and yes, televisions (good for you, there is no electricity...) you are idiots. I will not go further than that, although my disgust for these people runs much deeper than "idiots".
4. I can see how this would be compared to last December's tsunami, but let's not jump ahead of ourselves. Keep in mind, as horrible as this disaster is, I doubt the body count, and thus the scope of the disaster, can really compare.
5. In my mind, I am already writing a script about the disaster. There is no image nastier than that of a corpse floating by your front porch.
6. Will they rebuild? Should they rebuild? Yes, and no. I love to see so many people complain about natural disasters. They suck, they are horrible and alot of people die in them. But folks, if you live in that area, you have to accept the challenges and the possibility of disaster. The same goes for folks in CA. Earthquakes will happen. Be ready for them.
7. Bush sucks.
8. I wish there were a simple explanation for our need to view these things w/ wide eyes and slobbering mouths. More, more more. And our press is more than willing to provide ample photos and video footage of suffering and chaos. We eat it up, we drink it up. Sure does make a slow news day perk right up.
9. I am sending positive thoughts out to those stuck there or those stuck outside of their former city limits. With no sarcasm or ill will behind this final comment, it truly does suck to be you.
