I Could Be the New Traffic Girl!
I called into work this morning, cuz I had pinecones. For more information on that, visit some sight about pinecones. Well, I had settled down in front of the TV for some relaxation, and some close proximity to the bathroom, just in case. The NBC 5 folks were looking for some new blood. Apparently, Jeanne Sparrow, sp? the traffic woman, and lady around town at many events, is looking for her own "apprentice". Well, I now had the day off, so I figured I would head downtown for the audition. They had requested videos previously, but this is the first I had heard of it, and today, was onsite auditions for the job. I don't think they had a great reply to the tape request, cuz one of my fellow auditioners said this was set up last minute. They will choose 10 finalists, and then my understanding is that the viewers will take a vote on who they want in the position. I believe it will have air time, perhaps in times when Jeanne herself is experiencing pinecones. Other than that, all of the "rules" for the contest are a blur. I was twelfth in line, and everyone around me was great, talkative, supportive. It was held in the NBC Tower, of course, so I felt great pride that I was in the same building as Jerry Springer. I have been there before, but not as a potential employee. We were asked to do two minutes of "freestyle" as if we were on "So You Think You Can Dance". Freestyle about traffic. Well, since I am in traffic every other day, I think I did pretty well. In hindsight (isn't that always the way it is?) I should have been a bit more animated and less like a deer in headlights. But, my delivery seemed ok, and I talked about the Kennedy and the Edens, basically repeating what I hear every day on the way to and from work. I guess this is a real gig, but I am not sure if it is permanent. The bottom line is that it would be some great exposure, and it is certainly closer to what I really want to do, than my current day job. Keep your fingers crossed, and I will let you know if you need to vote for me. I cannot imagine that I would not make it to the finals. Can you?
PS. All of the NBC employees were wonderful, patient, and very excited about the turnout.
If I get the job, I guess it was meant to be. If I had gone into the office today, I never would have known about it. If nothing comes of it, at least I tried!
The key phrase of the day is "gaper's delay".
