"I'm Getting a Little Old for That Whore-y Look"
Last week, as we scoured the shelves of Reckless Records (our favorite used DVD/CD place) we found the Showgirls V.I.P. Edition, special set, for only $25. It comes w/ the DVD, which itself contains many extras; shot glasses; various drinking games; a deck of cards; and a poster of Elizabeth Berkley, to be used for "Pin the Pasties on the Showgirl" game (blindfold and pasties included). When I saw this advertised last year, I was yearning to make it my own. I was not about to pay full price for such extravagant trash, but the used deal was impossible to pass up. We watched it w/ the commentary track intact. It was by a gay guy (of course, who else loves this movie?) out of Seattle that started up showings of the film for his friends w/ his own bitter commentary. Apparently MGM caught wind of his antics and signed him on to deliver the goods on their special edition. The movie, as always, is a real treat. There are many moments in which our host sits in silence. He explains that he is still in awe after countless viewings. He has nothing to say, cuz he doesn't want to disturb the viewing pleasure of the audience. It is a great deal of fun, and he has several things to say about Rena Riffel; Penny/Hope in the film. He invited the viewers to go find her site/info online. Well, I decided to heed his advice, and I found that she has a blog. I commented to her that I found her fabulous, and asked how I would go about getting a signed headshot. She replied that she would get back to me on it. That would be pretty sweet; a photo of Penny/Hope, hanging on my wall, for all to behold. I hope she doesn't back out on me. I will keep you posted. In the interim, my special edition of Showgirls is proudly displayed. One of the worst movies ever, with all the trimmings. Good times.
