"Boogeyman" wears "The Ring Two"
Over the past two nights, we watched both of these films. Meh. The Ring Two did not match its prequel, and I found that it had a lot of the problems of the first film. In both films, it seemed as though we were left out in the cold as far as character motivations. Either I am really stupid (always a possibility) or Rachel's actions were never very clear; in either film. Why was she doing this? Where was she going? What sparked her to take this action? The movie was fine, and Simon Baker proved drool-worthy, but overall, this did not do much for me. Sure, there were some scary moments, but most of them came from the stupidity of the characters. You know your son is messed up from the previous film's antics, so why on earth would you EVER leave him alone, for any reason? Sure, let him wander off by himself in a new town, when he was having nightmares the night before. I can't stomach stupid characters. They do these things for the sake of moving the plot along. It wasn't all horrible; the scene w/ the deer was quite disturbing.
Speaking of stupid characters, Boogeyman is rife with them. The stupidity of the characters is the only reason this film exists. The moment Tim's car gets hit by the crow/raven, on his way to his childhood home, should have been a good omen that he should turn back. I appreciate that this was just a good scary movie, but with nothing to back it up. There is a place for this kind of crap, and I was scared by several things. The opening sequence w/ Tim as a little kid, was quite creepy. On the bad side, the reveal of the monster was severely anti-climactic. He looked like he as leftover from the Brendan Fraser Mummy films. He was cheap, unoriginal and once revealed, not at all scary. I do have to admit that the going back and forth from various Boogeyman hideouts was pretty cool.
Overall, both films did little besides provide some good "boo" moments and will no doubt, quickly disappear from my head.

You are overlooking the fact that I did mention the deer. I do like Elizabeth Perkins, although she did not look so good. Meh.
