Tid Bits of Feed Back

I sent off a copy of the script to two friends and my youngest brother. Unfortunately, none of them have the "Final Draft" software, in which I formatted my words. Well, I put it all back into a word document, and resent it to them (it wasn't pretty to look at, but all of the info was there). In addition, I asked that the other half read maybe 20-30 pages to see if it was interesting and if it drew him in. I sat downstairs, anxiously waiting for him to be done. After over an hour, he stopped at about page 80. So, that was promising. He was excited to finish the read, and decided to stop where he did, cuz he figured something bad was about to happen (and it was late...). He liked what he read, and "always tells me the truth". I can never fully believe that. As much as he is the ultimate in tactlessness, I sometimes wonder if he candy coats things for me; even just a little. But I am excited to hear his final thoughts.
On the other side, I got a reply late last night from friend Ryan. He has several great suggestions; all of them very sensible; and two of the three were items I was already aware of. So that made me feel good. In my struggle to complete a first draft, these two smaller items were left for the rewrites. He had a lot of good praise as well; no negative comments (which I also begrudgingly know I have to accept and weigh!) I like the way he presented his suggestions. I guess I felt a little threatened, cuz everyone I sent it out to is a writer. While most of his positive comments were specific, he made one comment that warmed my heart. He mentioned one character and said he "liked her in general." I was so pleased, cuz this character was fun for me to write and I really found her endearing. I'm glad it was conveyed. One other positive comment, was regarding a transition. I did not do it intentionally, but will certainly now make it more prominent. Thanks Ryan!
This weekend, the other half will complete his read. I'm not expecting tons of "technical" comments, but being a movie buff like me, he knows what works and what he likes.
I am very excited to start this next phase, and was shocked at how nervous I was to send it out. In addition, I find this feedback exhilarating. We'll see how I feel when the negative feedback really starts to pour in. Maybe it won't, but I'm really trying to anticipate it!

BTW: I did register the piece with the WGA; West. It is now somewhat protected, so I feel a bit more at ease having it floating around out there.

Yeah, progress!
