"Uncle Mike"
Words I've yet to hear. During the conversation with my brother, it became apparent that he was sad that I had yet to spend any good hang out time with my two nieces. I do feel guilt, cuz I always was excited to be an uncle, and to follow in the footsteps of my favorite Uncle; Gary. He was a true father figure, and had a great influence over my youth. I always respected him, and hoped that I would become one of "those" uncles; caring, always around, and ultra-fun. Well, it's a long way from South Dakota to Chicago and vice versa. Excuses, excuses. I've met my eldest niece once; when she was about 11 months old. She will be 5 this year. Yeah, I know. My second niece I have never met, and she just celebrated her 2nd birthday. So, I'm a big lamo. This year, I am determined to return home; not only to see the whole family, but to make some initial connections with the newest members of the clan. Perhaps, this year, I will hear the words, "Uncle Mike". That would be super cool.
