I'm Done
It's official. I took one more read through of the screenplay, fixed a couple of small items and then printed it off. I made my way to FedEx/Kinko's, and made my copies. One for Scriptapalooza, one for Final Draft's Big Break Contest, and one to mail to myself. However, I checked, and per the US Copyright Office, it's not valid copyrighting. Oh well. In addition, I will be emailing my final draft to WGA, West. I'm done folks. I am having a hard time with it. I'm terrified about mailing it off, cuz that's it. I can make as many additional changes as I want, but once they're in the mail, that's the version that will be judged. I told the other half that I'm pretty good at getting rejections for acting auditions, but I've never sent any of my writing off to a contest for actual judging. Certainly, nothing of this magnitude. I'm worried about how I would take rejection. What if I never hear from either of these contests? I know that doesn't mean the end of the line for Sid's Apple, cuz there are so many contests and other avenues to pursue. I guess it's a matter of finally letting my baby go, to spread it's wings and let fate take its course. I was holding off on friend Ryan's final thoughts. He explained that he had been super busy, so today I decided I would finish it off w/ out his comments. Strangely enough, as I completed my printing, I received an email from Ryan. He wasn't quite done w/ the read, but all of his comments were positive, no glaring problems that I would absolutely have to correct. My final read this morning, left me feeling a bit down about the whole script. I didn't think it was bad, but I didn't feel very sure. Ryan's comments immediately lightened my mood, and made me feel more certain that I had a pretty good product. So thank you Ryan! All I have to do now is get those metal fasteners (to fit 135 pages; final count!), and mail them out. So close!
Here's one of Ryan's comments that made me feel super!
"Roger Ebert is really going to like this Movie. You enter into things mystified, then slowly reveal an entire alternate world with it's own sets of rules, you explore the pros and cons of life in such a world and then provide us a MacGuffin in the form of Carley and her predicament. And then the walls and world come crumbling down."
