Oscars...Meh
We trekked through the nasty snowstorm to friend Bill's house for his annual Oscar party. Cuz of the storm, not many people showed up. I loved it, very intimate. Great food by Bill, great company, and a so-so Oscar telecast. Lily and Meryl's intro for Robert Altman was fun. Reese Witherspoon's acceptance speech was touching. Is that it? No other highlights come to mind. Forgive me, Dolly's song for Transamerica was super. Jon Stewart pretty much blew. There were no surprises; except for the best picture winner. I'm a little confused. I loved Crash, and I liked Brokeback Mountain, bordering on love. Let it be known that Crash moved me much more than Brokeback Mountain. So, I figured I would be happy if either one took the top award. But, when Crash was announced, I felt a bit sad. Apparently, without knowing it, I did want Brokeback Mountain to win. Was it the fact that it had gay men at its center? Was it because it would have been a milestone, had it won? I don't really know. The whole show was pretty lame. The other half said it best, "The anticipation is always better than the actual show." Well said. What a drag.
