"Red Eye" of "The Corpse Bride"
A couple of movies we've seen over the past few days. I loved Red Eye, although mostly after the plane landed. It was intense, quick, w/ little to no filler material (a nice change of pace). I was a bit annoyed by Rachel McAdams, but once she reached ass-kicking mode, she was a lot less whiny and much more entertaining. Cillian Murphy was a great villain (although more-so in Batman Begins). I was yelling at the TV (always a good sign in a thriller) and hiding my eyes in the house cat & mouse. The hotel explosion was super exciting, and the young woman playing the "assistant manager" (I guess) was wonderful, thankfully not irritating comic relief. Kudos to Wes Craven, for a job well done.
The Corpse Bride doesn't reach the level of A Nightmare Before Christmas, but it was still a very good time. The animation was spectacular and the music (as always) by Danny Elfman was ultra fun (as always). I had great sympathy for the corpse bride, and felt very sad for her when the film ended. What would she do now? Poor girl. The voices were all top-notch. The grays of the living world in contrast to the colorful, lively hues of the dead world, were a great touch. Yet another line of action figures I must attain for my ever-expanding toy collection. Should've sat this one out...and saved some bucks. Alas.
