Yet Another Update Via Blog
A wonderful long weekend. It seemed to last forever. Had a short visit from friends Jeff and Chris. They are the ones who attended my show with the other half. Interestingly enough, I only worked two days last week, but quickly came to realize how much my down time used to mean to me. I certainly appreciate it more now; even after this short of a work schedule. I worked yesterday and was told that my boss would be out of town today; thus I am sitting at home; typing this blog. I was happy to have a day off, but also was ready to be working and felt like I might lose my "job momentum". I think this job could be a good opportunity, so I hope it pans out. It will.
I'm astounded by the amount of walking I've been doing over the past few weeks. I walk to my shows and walk home most of the time. I have walked to work and back home over the past 3 workdays. The other half and I have been walking everywhere to go eat, shop and just to walk. If this continues over the summer, I am certain I will lose some serious weight. My knickers in the show are getting looser and looser. I'm sure it has to do with a lot of stretch and give in the fabric, but I know some of it is weight loss. Not to mention the exercise I'm getting while doing the shows over each weekend. Yeah!
Movies. Movies. New stuff is Breakfast on Pluto and King Kong. Breakfast on Pluto was wonderful. Cillian Murphy was amazing and by the end of the film, I had forgotten that it was a man. I was touched by his/her relationship with "Billy Hatchet" of the Mohawks. I loved this movie. It also had a great soundtrack. Among many stand out scenes, the highlight was Liam Neeson's visit to "Kitten's" workplace in London. Warm and wonderful. I don't know what else to say. See it. The end.
King Kong; the Peter Jackson update. Never in my life would I have believed that such a relationship between (wo)man and beast would turn me into such a mess. I loved this film and wish it would have gotten a bit more Academy notice...for actress (Naomi Watts was splendid; considering she was probably looking at nothing a great deal of the time), perhaps for best picture and director. I guess the voters thought Jackson had gotten enough for Lord of the Rings. The other half pointed out that had Jackson not done Lord of the Rings and become the household name he is now, this would certainly have gotten a best picture nod. Andy Serkis (once again) should have somehow gotten a supporting actor nomination. Something! He's truly an amazing performer. I loved the distinct 3-act setup of the film. The best moments? The T-Rex fight (just heart-pounding), the Bronto stampede (intense) and the few quiet moments on the icy pond. Also, when Anne and Kong were reunited on the NYC street, as she walked toward him down the center line of the avenue, I was hardly able to contain my tears and sobbing. Didn't expect that! A beautiful, seamless piece of filmmaking. BTW, the natives on Skull Island were creepily reminiscent of some super nasty zombies. Didn't like that!
Now, what shall I do with the rest of my day off? Hmm? Nifty. I don't know either!
