"Agnes...it's me, Billy."
Bob Clark died a couple of days ago...he and his 22 year old son. They were the victims of a drunk driver. For those who don't know, Bob Clark was a filmmaker...and a very talented one @ that. Two films of his are high on my list of "all time favorites". Black Christmas (the original 1974 pic); which is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen; and the one that most everyone will know; A Christmas Story. He is also the man behind the Porky's films; and so many others. I feel good knowing that A Christmas Story has reached such a fevered pitch over recent years; with the TNT network's "24 hours of A Christmas Story". That will be his legacy. For those interested; check out his original version of Black Christmas (I can't comment on the recent remake; I've yet to see it). Take some time to watch this gem. It's a fantabulous cast, a chilling location (in both ways) and full of nail-biting, curse-at-the-screen tension. I first saw it in college; and I actually screamed at some of the more horrifying moments. Keep in mind as you watch, all of the cliches found here actually predated Halloween by 4 years and When a Stranger Calls by 2 years. This was one of the first of its type. I won't say I was shaken by his death; I didn't know him personally, and I didn't know any details of his life...but, he was a gifted director; and in that respect, he will be deeply missed. So long Bob.
