Um...Things Happening
Completed our viewing of Dynasty season two on Thursday. We were up until 1am; finishing it all off. Some good cliffhangers (Cecil having a heart attack, little baby Blake being kidnapped, and big Blake left for dead on a mountainside); but not as crazy as I thought it would be. I did get my first cat-fight. While I have seen clips of this particular one, it was still a treat. I did have a problem with the horribly obvious stunt doubles and the wretched wigs. I see that Linda Evans did do some of her own stunts, but the same cannot be said for Joan Collins. Very good cat-fight. Also, I believe this was Al Corley's final season as Steven Carrington, and I will miss him; especially with his final moments...finally acknowledging his homosexuality in front of the entire family (an amazing scene). It was a wonderfully tense moment waiting to see who would follow his instructions first. He wanted someone to say "Steven is gay". I think I was hoping/expecting that it would be Crystal (I think I'm spelling it wrong), but I was pleased/moved by the fact that is was Fallon. This was all a real treat and I hope it's not a huge delay before season three hits the shelf. Special mention must be given to Pamela Bellwood as Claudia Blaisdell. She was doing so well after her recuperation @ the Carrington house in the beginning of the season. I actually grew tired by her storyline, but once she found out about Mathew and Lindsay's death, her character really went off the deep end; thus my interest was piqued. I was so impressed with her acting. Actually, I was a bit frightened. She's able to cry at the drop of a hat; and for the first time since we began watching this show (two years ago); I had some real sympathy for her. It's strange to get so incredibly involved in these characters; over a period of a few days (17 hours of footage watched) and then suddenly be without them. And again, having no idea of when I might be able to see them again, it takes some sort of weird toll on my brain. Until next time.
Friday night, I was to go to friend's David and Sonnet for an evening of crafting and conversation. On my way there, I stopped to pick up some snacks. Upon my return to the truck, I found it would not start. Splendid. I waited two hours for roadside assistance; and by that time, we had to have it towed to the parking lot next door to our condo. Too late for any service. Well, we then called to have the truck towed in the morning. We waited about 2 hours for that (note that both times we called, we were told it would be a 45 minute wait). Finally, when he arrived, he said he could do the work (we were going to have it towed to Sears; where we've had previous work completed), and have the truck back in two hours. Hmmm. He picked up @ about 10am. When did he return the car? Had to have been about 5pm. What the hell is with time frames from anyone in a position such as mechanic? How do they get away with this...basically, LYING? I don't get it. Just friggin' tell me it'll be 7 hours and I'll plan my day around that. Don't tell me 2 hours when there's simply no way you can keep that promise? All of the tow guys and mechanics we dealt w/ were very nice, but cripes! Be honest with me. Turns out we needed a new battery and starter. And, with our both being unemployed, the expense couldn't have come at a better time. Anyhoo.
Today, we closed out our offsite storage unit. It felt good to get all of our belongings back into one location. It makes everything more clear; as far as our remaining junk and our packing workload. We've begun another purge of our stuff; and it feels super. We've already cleared out several of the shelving units in our "study" (five more to go); and the neighbor who bid on them; came to pick them up. The room looks a bit strange, but it also give me a sense of progress. Nice. Packing for an unknown move date into an unknown future. Super.
A quick word on the Family Guy season premiere Sunday night (a Star Wars parody)...FANTASTIC.
Job search continues. Lovely.
Friday afternoon, the other half and I had a great time walking to Michigan Avenue. We stopped off at the Lincoln Park Zoo. We chatted up the penguins, avoided the children. Our biggest reason for going; was our semi-annual trip to feed the birds. We save up the bread we get when we order from the corner pizza joint; and have a splendid time starting a feeding frenzy among the gulls, geese and ducks. This time, they were particularly bold. At one point I was surrounded by the birds; both on land and water. Alfred would have been scared.
