I'm Blogging
That's neat, Jimmy.
Updates are nifty. I like them lots. BFF.
So I had my first LA audition yesterday. I read for the two leads, but I think I was older than they expected. Although I do believe my headshot still looks like me. I guess blame the stress for aging me considerably over the past several months. It's a non-paying, non-union (obviously) gig...but it's a feature, so that's cool. I was asked if I would be against smaller, speaking roles (say a few lines) or background. Advised the director that indeed, I would be happy w/ smaller roles, but no background. I apparently seemed right for (not the womanizing 20-something male I read for), but for the "art gallery owner". I had the right attitude. There were no sides for it. The other half and I were joking that she saw me as the "bitter gay art gallery owner". I don't deny it, I'm sure I could sell that role. I've got it within me. I'd happily take a smaller role. It's screen time, credit and another notch in my resume. I'll know sometime in late June.
6 days left until we are literally homeless. I'm sure Saint Leah and her cute, Brit roomie would allow us to stay longer if we had no other options. However, we have been shopping for apartments over the past three days. Why just today, I think we found a winner. The issue now is, will they take us? You see, due to some issues back in Chicago (almost losing our home, unemployment, debt, etc), we have bad credit. Imagine that. Well, a good stroke of fortune has led us to our search. And by week's end, we hope to be safely, securely in our new apartment. The other half has requested that I not reveal our blessing, until such time that it has actually materialized in our hands.
Last night, we spent the evening w/ friends Scott and Christina, and Chris's brother Rick @ a fundraising event for The Actor's Gang, which Scott has been a part of for the past 2 years. We haven't seen them since we got to LA, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. We also stopped off at Venice Beach before the event in Culver City, so the other half could buy some sunglasses. Don't worry, he didn't break the bank, only 10 bucks. Who knew southern CA was so sunny. Isn't my face red.
I really, really want to see The Strangers. This week.
Still no flippin' jobs, but if we can have housing by the end of the week, I'll be happy with that...for now.
So, back to the housing. We saw a ridiculous "studio" in Santa Monica. I wanted to laugh at the woman showing it. It was a closet. Basically our queen sized bed would have fit in the main area...and that's it. $1275.00. So, a no go. We are basically looking at anything from Los Feliz west and from Brentwood south, to the 10. That's a big area, and from what I've seen, the most expensive areas. The place we've decided on is in the heart of Hollywood; and I don't mean, it's nearby. We're literally a block from the walk of fame, Mann's Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre. In fact, the parking structure we would use (an extra 49 bucks/month) is the theatre for those facilities; as well as the attached mall. Yes, the Oscars are held in a theatre; within a mall. Betcha didn't know that. Well, I sure didn't. We also looked in downtown LA. Not as sketchy as we have been led to believe, but certainly not high on our list. Some nice properties, including a 350 sq. ft. studio; including all utilities, but not a full kitchen. Also, we roamed the area, and there is NOTHING around. Our Hollywood location has everything w/in a short distance. So, that is our choice. I would appreciate it if all of you folks out there (my avid readers of 1) would send good wishes our way. God I hope we get it.
On another note of good wishes, I want to congratulate friend Callie on her recent engagement, and send some get well wishes to friend Jessica, whom I understand is recovering from a crazy back surgery. Love to all. Aren't I all a-twitter?
Also, while we were in front of Mann's Chinese Theatre, I got to see the footprints and handprints of my darling Joan Crawford. Since we'll be living next door, I plan to take some good photos when our camera is again in our grubby little hands.
Anything else? I don't know. If I think of anything, I'll be sure to let y'all know. I'm sure you'll hold your breath.
