Local Actors Spotted 4-24
The other half and I went to see The Stangers (more on that later) last Friday--next door @ the Hollywood Highland Mall, and then decided to stick around for the red carpet madness of the Daytime Emmy's. Neither of us are huge soap fans, but we knew of many of the attendees, and certainly many of the talk show/court show/game show circuit. We stood there for about 2 hours, being stupid tourists. It was quite fun, and I don't care that I'm a local now. I eat up this crap! We settled in this area for just such events. I'm a nerd, and I'm pretty proud of it. We were right on the carpet, great "seats"...yes, we were standing. Note that I didn't know the names of all the actors we saw, but I did know their characters, so I had to look it up. There were also a bajillion (my favorite word lately) other soap actors whom I recognized, but could never tell you from where. In addition, a huge bevy of hot men. While some of the soap stars don't hold up in person, there were plenty that addressed the needs of us gays to overflow our retinas w/ glorious eye candy. Nice. Also, this event marks a total of 4 men from my Stew of Sin that I have seen in person since we arrived in LA. Appetizing.
Corbin Bernsen--Does he count a second time? He was on the red carpet too. But we already saw him a couple of weeks before.
Susan Lucci--Erica Kane (sp?) of All My Children. You know who she is...admit it. She looked amazing.
Judge Marilyn Milian--Strangely (well not so strange I guess) enough, the person I was most excited to see. She was looking incredible in her dress; and on her arm was her hunky and hot husband. The other half shouted out one of her trademark lines from The People's Court, "The cheap ends up becoming expensive". It's a line she uses constantly; a quote from her grandmother. Of course she always delivers it in Spanish, so that's how the other half delivered it to her. She replied with a smile and said, "One of my hardcore fans!" I was THRILLED to see her. First year for courtroom shows, and she lost. What a joke!
Ellen Degeneres & Portia De Rossi--Do you need me to explain? They looked wonderful and so happy together.
Brian Kerwin--He's a soap regular now, but I know him from my second favorite movie of all time, Murphy's Romance. You might also know him from Torch Song Trilogy. He's already been inducted into my Stew of Sin. I almost missed him as he came down the carpet. Would have loved to say hello (in bed). Alas.
Drake Hogestyn--John Black of Days of our Lives. I had to look up his name. Know the character, but not the actor...how clumsy of me.
Cameron Mathison--a recent inductee into my Stew of Sin. Don't know much about him and his soap appearances, but he looks damn good in person.
Tyra Banks--We all know her. Looking lovely.
Stephen Nichols--Patch from Days of our Lives. I also know him well from the 80's horror gem, Witchboard; on my list of all time faves. He played Brandon; Tawny Kitaen's former lover.
Bryan Datillo--Lucas from Days of our Lives. Came across the velvet ropes right by us, to get a picture w/ a handicapped fan. Oh the pandering! :)
Jack Wagner--"All I Need". We all know him. Don't say you don't. Also came across the velvet rope for a photo w/ the same handicapped fan. In the process, stepped on my foot and pushed the other half out of the way w/ his butt.
Regis and Joy Philbin--I think we know who they are. The other half wanted to rock the boat, so rather than screaming for Regis (he's soooo tiny), he yelled out to Joy; who seemed appreciative.
Finola Hughes--I knew her from General Hospital way back in the day. Most folks will remember her as John Travolta's love interest in Staying Alive. I think that's the one she's in. Frankly, I've not seen either film in that series. Oops. She looked fabulous!
Sherrie Shepherd--co-host of The View. She looks amazing in person. The other half shouted out to her that her wig looked great. Her reply, "I'm rockin' this wig!" Sadly, we didn't see Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Whoopi, or even Elisabeth there. Harumph.
Allison Sweeney: The evil (although I haven't watched in such a long time--she could be good now) Sammie from Days of our Lives.
And others around town--not at the Daytime Emmy's...
Peter Walsh--He's from Clean Sweep on TLC and seems to have regular appearances on Oprah. We ran into him in IKEA last week. He's quite cute in person. I told him I loved his show, and the other half said he appreciated how much Peter made the homeowners cry. Apparently, he got a kick out of that.
Kyan Douglas--The grooming guru from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. The other half called from downstairs to let me know he was the new host for 10 Years Younger; another show on TLC. Have you seen it? They were filming some episodes in the center of the Hollywood Highland Mall. The other half will probably appear in the new season, making comments about the person's possible age. He signed the release and everything. He also got a photo w/ Kyan (another of my Stew of Sin inductees), but probably won't let me post it. He doesn't like how he looks in the photo...whatever. I went down to meet the other half; and perhaps get to meet Kyan. Didn't work out, but I did see him. He's adorable in person. Yummy.
Lori Petty: The young sister of Geena Davis in A League of their Own, and the cult classic (which I haven't seen) Tank Girl. Saw her at the Landmark Cinemas the day we saw Mamma Mia: The Movie...at the Westlake Pavilion on Pico.
Sigourney Weaver--The other half was in Santa Monica, while I was working w/ friend Justin. This is not a confirmed sighting, but he was pretty certain it was her. However, with his recent Scarlett Johannsen flub, I'm not sure he is completely trustworthy.
I'm sure I've missed some other folks, so I'll check w/ the other half. Later.
