We'll See Boys
Attending the LA Opera tonight. Das Rheingold. I've heard opera. I like Pavoratti (sp?) and Bocelli, and when Sarah Brightman goes in that direction...but I've never seen an opera. Friends Chris and Ami had some extra tix for this evening's performance, so the other half and I are going there tonight. I'll provide you with an update at a later time.
The other half has now been working for almost a month, thus I'm at ease in posting such news. It seems more solid; as solid as anything is in today's economy. My job is going well. Nothing to complain about; nothing to sing high praises about either. But I don't absolutely hate it, so I guess that's good. Right?
Some movies of past days. 10,000 BC. Worthless. Some fun monster effects, a hot lead and...and? Well, I guess that's about it. The Frighteners. Was my second time...first for the other half. He liked it. I liked it. Forgot how just absolutely adorable Michael J. Fox is in this film...or in general. Forgotten about Dee Wallace Stone. What a fabulous role and performance. And to think that Jake Busey played a psycho. I was just shocked. He usually plays such level-headed, Christian, likeable characters. Hmmm. Caught the majority of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Great fun. The Lady Chablis is obviously the highlight. It's been a while since I caught this one as well. Last night, we watched The Reaping. Nothing amazing, but I did get a few great "boo" moments out of it. It certainly wasn't the load of crap I had expected it to be; based on the fact that it bombed and that the critics hated it. Hilary Swank (who will shortly be added to my Stew of Sin) added great credibility, and I found her onscreen relationship (both the way it was written and performed) with her assistant/friend/colleague very fascinating, touching and effective. That was a big selling point for me. It lost its way toward the end; getting a bit hokey, and it was the Rosemary's Baby ripoff (and The Seventh Sign grabbies--slit wrists, lost faith, etc) that lost me at the end. Good performances. Good scares. Not at all as bad as you might think.
BTW, the wench who took our apartment, apparently broke or sprained or some other way injured her foot. I saw her walking around in a cast/brace. Apparently it happened before she screwed us over. Pre-karma? I'll leave it at that. God, I'm such a bitch.
I'm doing some laundry today. Had to be done, otherwise my productivity would have been 0 for the day.
A copy of House of Black Wings is currently en route to me; per director David. Very anxious to see it. Apparently, a crew/cast screening was held last night. His only words to me were, "no one fell asleep".
The other half and I both had Sunday off; a wonderful treat. We got our car fixed/tuned/updated, so he's as fit as a fiddle. Only 400 bucks. Wow. He must have needed that. We did some shopping (although bought nothing), had some lunch and toured 3 different condo/town homes for sale. The top on my list (as well as the close runner up) will be added to my "I Want That" series of entries; shortly. On top of that, the realtor for the top prize, was a super hot guy; and nice...and a writer/director. All in one package. Huh-huh. You said package. :) Hopefully soon, we'll get in on one of these deals.
Friend Chris completed a reading of my Me & Simon Baker script (which I just had protected w/ the WGA; West), and the subject line of his notes? "Loved it". Well, needless to say, I loved his response. Not all good; many valuable critiques as well. In addition (not sure if I posted this yet), the other half had a read as well. He wasn't as in love with it as Chris, but he had lots of notes for me to ponder. He did say that by the end; it all came together, and that he did like it.
Speaking of the other half...his grandfather died this week. He was 99; and not well. They didn't have a picture perfect relationship, so I'm unsure of how the other half is faring. He's usually so open and forthright about his emotions. Um, yeah. I have been praying for his mother. I'm also relieved that she will no longer have to care for him. She had been doing so for 3 years (in addition to the other half's grandmother who died about 2 years ago), and it was literally wasting her away. I'm glad she'll now be able to have some time to herself, and not spend every day killing herself to take care of others. So Dolly, I'm sorry, but also relieved you have some freedom now.
Nothing else to report. I'm working on projects; slowly on some...sort of/kind of on others. I just am aching for some completion...on something...ANYTHING!
Later y'all.
