I have cast my vote for "The Manchurian Candidate"
I heard the talk. I read the reviews. I did not see it in the theatre and I have never seen the original. Well today, we picked up Jonathan Demme's latest flick. Tense, eerie, paranoid, exciting. I loved Meryl Streep as a villian. I was pleased with Denzel, cuz he tends to play the same roles. Liev Schreiber was pure joy. Demme had all of his usual suspects in the supporting roles; among them, Tracy Walter and Charles Napier. I love these guys! I just love, and have never made the connection that Demme uses this alot; those crazy close ups of the actors, talking directly to the camera. I definitely recall it in Silence of the Lambs, and possibly in Philadelphia. I don't remember this technique in Something Wild. It is offputting and invasive, but it works, especially here. Wow! This film was a heart stopper from beginning to end. It never let up, what a great ride. I can't recall a film igniting so much paranoia, since Rosemary's Baby. I really would have loved to see Streep get a supporting Oscar nomination, and even one for Liev would have been nice. Streep's moment with a naked Liev was enough to give me nightmares for weeks, but what a wonderful Oscar clip that would have made. This was interesting all the way through, not one dull moment. Vote yes to this nasty candidate! Private. Private (insert your first and last name here). Private (insert your full name here). Go out and watch this film. Then kill your boss.
