I "Saw" this before. It was called "Seven", or "Copycat", or "Kiss the Girls"
I "Saw" it. I did not like it. Yes, it was a cool concept, and it would have fared much better with just the two men in the room. But we all know that the American public would not go for two men alone in a room, waiting to die. After all, it could result in some gay something or other. We need children, love interests, a cop story, and multiple locations to keep the interest up. This was a new type of serial killer, but the rest remains the same. It has been done better before, and will be done better again. The acting was fine, and there were some very ghoulish set pieces and moments. Stomach turning amputations do not a good movie make. I have never loved or hated Cary Elwes, but he overacted til his heart's content on this one and Danny Glover was given little to do. The scene stealer was Shawnee Smith, as Amanda, the only one to escape Kevin Spacey's game (sorry wrong movie). She only had a few moments of screen time, but made the most of it. I have had a soft spot for her since the late 80's, when she appeared in two of my faves; Who's Harry Crumb and the remake of The Blob. She is about the only thing worth your time here. I enjoyed the eye-in-the-crack-of-the-door gag, which was ripped off directly from Black Christmas. It was done better there. Sensing a pattern? Me too. Coming off a weekend of fun, tense movies, this was not the best way to end the marathon.
