Tears for Fears

Since Songs from the Big Chair, Tears for Fears has had me in their corner. This was when I was still a preteen, and indeed it was only the second album I ever owned. Of course, it was on cassette @ the time. The first was the Miami Vice soundtrack. That dates me. Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Head over Heels, I Believe, etc. Great album. Years later, when I was a teenager, they released Seeds of Love. The only song I knew was Sowing the Seeds of Love. Upon arrival @ my freshman year of college, my roommate had a CD player. I was still without one, @ the tender age of 18. Most of his music was not for me. However, he did have Seeds of Love in his CD collection. By the end of that first college year, the CD was in my possession. I did not steal it, but he knew how much I loved the music on this disc, so he kindly gifted it to me. Indeed, I would spend countless nights falling asleep to the haunting tunes on that album. Of course, Woman in Chains starts the CD, and that is the song that I use most often to relax me. It brings back memories of those care-free days, before bills, traffic, real life in the real world. It is also an incredible album, and makes for some of my favorite music listening moments. In the nineties, as I started to mature, I had other things on my mind. Break it Down Again was released (I don't even know the album name, how sad.) I picked up the cassette single (cassingle, ugh), and that is all I knew for that particular album. Then of course, there was the song New Star on the Threesome soundtrack. Forget the fact that I loved this song, when the film itself was so irresistible, and oh-so titillating! College movie about bisexual sex, when I myself was going thru the same exact thing? And they acted on it? Well, for a time, the film swept me up, leaving the Tears for Fears track in the dust.
Recently, I was shopping @ my usual Target, and as I approached the counter, there was an endcap w/ $9.99 albums (damn those endcaps!). There in front of me, was the new album for Tears for Fears! I vaguely recall being told that it was coming out, and I know that this was several months ago. So apparently, since the album was in the "cheapies" already, I could readily assume that it was not doing very well. I snatched up a copy and inserted into my car CD player.
Heavenly, nostalgic music filled my ears. It is definitely them. I know that Orzabal and Smith broke up many years ago, but obviously they have reunited. It is like their old stuff, soothing, packed w/ so many sounds, but still, it manages to sound current. However, I cannot see any of the current Ashanti, Jessica Simpson teenage pop-ites getting very worked up over this. I sure did. One track has a bit of Beatles, one has a bit of Pearl Jam, one even has some sounds that remind of Queen. But it is all Tears for Fears. The Devil, haunting and simple. Last Days on Earth, creepy, raptury, also fabulous. My favorite track is Secret World. They are all tremendous, and I highly recommend that the album be purchased. It is a new found relaxation CD for me, along w/ Seeds of Love. Wow.
This also serves to confirm that I want them to score my movie, assuming I ever complete the screenplay, sell it, get it produced, etc.
I love you Tears for Fears! You set me @ ease.

Miami Vice was the first album I owned also. I could probably at least identify every track on it to this day.

The second was probably So by Peter Gabriel.
