The Final Frontier

I never thought I would reach this point. Strangely enough, I never thought the other half would suggest it first, and act on the idea in the end. I always despised how these contraptions were abused. Cell phones folks. There were times that I envied those w/ cell phones, just for some moments in life that would have benefited from their presence. Convenience, missed calls, simple communication when it would have been useful. We are getting one to have between us...at least for now. The other half found a plan for a free Razor, and the plan seems to be one that would work for us, and not bust the bank. Now that we are on the verge of joining the 21st century of communication, I have a few concerns and questions. First, how many people out there picked up a cell phone for the convenience, telling themselves that they would put it to practical use, and it would never be abused. Never left on in the theatre, never would be used to have a conversation, when the person you are actually out with was sitting across the table. To those that use it in place of a land line, I can agree w/ that. To those that use it for emergencies and non-abusive needs, I appreciate it. To those that started out w/ good intentions, and have now settled into a zone of talking loudly in public, leaving the ringer on @ inappropriate times, or worst of all, talking on it @ inappropriate moments, I ask you, when did it change, and do you feel bad about it? The other half are looking @ this new purchase as a science experiment. If all goes well, we will rack up our unused minutes month to month, and will end up having a huge overstock of talk time, simply because we will not use it unless it is needed. That is not to say I will call the other half only if my leg is sitting on the middle of road. If, for instance, I stop @ Target on the way home, I will certainly call to make sure there is nothing else needed, on top of the list I carry. The phone will be a good thing for travel, getting directions, confirming meeting places, confirming times to meet friends, or letting them know we will be a few hours late, as the casino sucked extra money from our pockets. We have agreed that if it gets to be abusive, we will probably let it go the way of the wind. In a few days, we should have our phone, and we will be switching it off between us, depending on who is out and about. Let the experiment commence...
