Writer's Non Block

I deliberately planned nothing this weekend, so that I could sit and write on my screenplay. I had in mind a story that Chris Romero talked about, when I saw her and hubby George live last year. She said that he sat in a room for 5 days, did not bathe, eat or sleep, and just wrote (I believe it was Dawn of the Dead). That is my continuous inspiration. Unfortunately, 5 straight days is not an option, cuz I have a crappy day job to contend with. So, I get a weekend. Better than nothing I guess. The ultimate goal was to complete a first draft by weekend's end. A more realistic goal, as the weekend started, was to complete another 30 pages. At the start of the weekend, I had approximately 52 pages. By weekend's end, I wanted 82 pages; an honest to God feature length script. Well, yesterday, I wrote for about 4 hours, and produced 14 pages; not too bad. Then, the evening, we decided to head off to the casino, for some smoke-inhaling money-wrangling fun. We were there for five hours, and I came back about 500 bucks ahead. I had a great feeling as we headed there, feeling super about how much I had written over the day. I was in for some mindless fun. Today, I wrote about two pages, and it was mostly crap. I was not in the right frame of mind, and so I slacked most of the day. I feel kind of guilty about not doing what I wanted to, but then again, there are many more weekends before the end of the year (my sensible goal for a first draft; at least). So, all in all, I added probably about 15 good pages (including my ending) of stuff I am happy with. Not bad. Three weekends from now, I believe will be another all writing weekend. Hopefully I can stick to that plan. 68 pages folks. We are well over an hour, and I don't feel like I am searching for material. There's still plenty of stuff to discover and put on paper (computer). Screenwriting is fun.
