Some Recent Gripes
1.) Please folks, when exiting an establishment that spills onto a busy walkway; look both ways before shoving your bulk onto the sidewalk. It's a lesson we've had pounded into our heads since we were little. "Look both ways before crossing the street." Or in this case, before entering the sidewalk. It continually amazes me how oblivious people can be.
2.) In other sidewalk peeves, please have your conversation off to the side of the walkway; not in the middle of a busy sidewalk. This is just common sense. Some of the sidewalks here in Chicago can be narrow. It's already hard enough to get by w/ two way traffic, let alone when a group of 5 people stall in the middle of it all, to say their goodbyes after a reunion breakfast. C'mon!
3.) The other half and I went to one of regular joints for some eats this evening. A new guy was manning the register. We come to find out (from one of regular waiters) that the business was sold over the weekend. Our waiter said they found out about this when they came to work on Friday. No notice, no warning, no signs...nothing. I find this disrespectful and rude; especially when some of our waiters have been working there for as long as the other half and I have given them our patronage; at least 6 years!
4.) I'm tired of excuses. I have so many people in my life that thrive on making excuses for any and all situations. I make my share of excuses, but I don't do it when following my dreams and desires. I may be a procrastinator, but eventually I'll work toward those dreams and goals. I can't understand people who have things in mind that they "believe" they are passionate about, but then make no effort to make it happen. Pathetic!
5.) The whole immigration strike/boycott/walkout...whatever. I admittedly don't know the whole story. Correct me if I'm wrong, but illegal immigrants want to get legal immigrant rights? Right? They are already here illegally, and don't want to go through the process of all those law-abiding immigrants, but still want to be treated equally. First, you shouldn't be here. Why are you to have special privileges when so many others are going through the legal process to become actual citizens? I agree, we probably do need all of you folks, but I certainly have an issue w/ illegal immigrant's rights; when actual US citizens; like myself, cannot get full rights...cuz I'm gay! I'm not wrong am I? It doesn't make sense. As far as the Star Spangled Banner b.s., there are many, many legal Latinos in our country. They speak Spanish. Just cuz they speak Spanish, doesn't mean they don't love the US. Let 'em have a Spanish version. Who cares? I agree that first and foremost, the Star Spangled Banner should be done in English, but in the big scheme of things, who really cares if there's a Spanish version. I don't. I was just listening to the news about the brouhaha today. The newscaster was talking about the illegal immigrants having a say. The other half replied with, "You don't have a voice." I agree! You can't vote, you can't follow the rules. Why the hell should you have any say at all? My biggest gripe is that there are so many immigrants taking the time to learn our history, learn English, go through (what I'm sure is) a big ball of ridiculous red tape to become actual US citizens. What's the point if they can just be here illegally and pay no consequences? And they don't have to make any effort. Who wouldn't do it that way? I'm so tired of this whole thing. In addition, the walkout today was only one day. I'm sure it had a grave impact on many businesses. The only thing it did to me, was make me walk a bit more to find a restaurant that was open for business. Big deal! Enough is enough. YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW! Do it the legal way, or get the hell out! That is all.

I do agree that there's a lot of red tape crap and that some of the laws may be too strict or ridiculous. However, until they are changed, they should be obeyed. Especially if you're trying to become part of our country. Well, then you should respect our ways...
