I'm a Bit Slow
I have yet to finish my Vegas post-update. Hell, I have yet to finish my final thoughts on Puerto Rico; from back in December! I'm behind on quite a bit. Friend Harry's screenplay has been in my inbox for seemingly centuries. He finished mine several weeks ago and provided ample, smart ideas and suggestions. I haven't even started his. I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'm a BAD FRIEND. I've set aside times to do so, but each time, something else has come up. My blogging has been nill for a week, and before that; not very frequent. Oh well.
I had an audition yesterday; had to drive up to Milwaukee for it. It's like a public service announcement/commercial for a hospital. I had to get off work after a half day. My boss was kind enough to let me out. 4 hours of driving, for a 10 minute audition. If (I guess I should say "when") I get it, it will shoot on Wednesday; in Milwaukee. Keep your fingers crossed.
The other half and I had company last night; friend Jill and her pooch Sprocket; an adorable little Schnauzer (sp?). It was fun to have the clicking of his little toes on our hardwood. That's such a nice, relaxing sound. We ordered food, watched a movie (more on that later) and hung out w/ the dog. He was a cutie and you could tell how much he depends on and loves his mama; and vice versa. The other half didn't want to let him go; and for that matter; neither did I. There was mention of us possibly dog-sitting when Jill is away. I think it would be fun, not to mention a good "test run".
Some new movie viewings as of late. Last night; Wolf Creek. A beautifully shot film, and a semi-interesting villian, but plum full of characters making bad decisions and exhibiting non-logic (is that a word?). Even moreso than the average horror film. Overall, an unpleasant experience, and not in the good way. When a Stranger Calls (the remake), on the other hand, was quite entertaining. Nothing brilliant or ground-breaking, but a nice, quick piece that inspired some genuine covering-of-the-eyes action. Every bit of foreshadowing was blatant and seen from a mile away (Jill's being on the track team, the aviary in the middle of the home and the automatic lights in every room). I was pleased w/ how they explained away the non-use of cell phones in this day and age. Simple but clever. The villain's face was seen only once, and it was memorably creepy. I was also impressed w/ one of the moments that was played over and over in the ad campaign. I didn't know when it would show up. I was expecting it at the bottom of the stairs, but it took place in another area of the (may I say, stunning) home, so it got a good squeal out of me. As for a comparison to the original? I don't know. I think I like the original better; just cuz it had that 70's grainy quality, and the original idea of giving some background and sympathy to the killer. And, of course, the kids actually died! What a novel idea! You know what else? The moment of realization; "The caller is inside the house", still works, God bless it! I got goose bumps. "Have you checked the children?" I have not, and don't think I will. They'll need to fend for themselves. I'm out the front door!
Perhaps I'll continue blogging tomorrow. I do have the whole day off. I need to get caught up. For the love of God!
And let me again say, and for the last time, "I will not check the children. Stop asking me."
btw, Lance Henrikson did the voice for the villain in When a Stranger Calls (the remake). As if you give two shits. Don't pretend on my account.
