I'm in a Vegas-y Mood
Good thing, cuz our day is only partially over. In a couple of hours, we attend Cirque du Soleil's "O" (sp?). As we've made our rounds to all of the casinos/hotels, etc, we have found that our home base of Ceasar's Palace is the end all/be all best place to stay. We have yet to see Wynn (until tomorrow), but what we believed would be a worthy adversary to Ceasar's (Bellagio), turned out to be great, but not as atmospheric and fun as our beloved Ceasar's. Let's begin w/ Celine's show last night. Stunning, cheesy (in all the best possible ways) and moving. Who knew she was a good dancer? Who knew she was such an all around great performer? We all knew she could sing, but she had a great presence as well. I may even venture to say that I am now...*gulp*...a Celine fan. God help us all. She seemed quite genuine. I was waiting for the moment that Kathy Griffin had explained in detail. It was there (Celine's feigning surprise at a standing ovation), but I bought it completely. It was a great show, and one in which I was able to leave my own worries behind (never a small task). Of course one of her encores was "My Heart Will Go On". I was waiting for it all evening, and when I heard the opening chords of the tune, I started to emotionally lose it, complete with chin quivers, moist eyes and heaving stomach. What can I say? I'm a loser. It was a splendid evening. The highlight? Celine (in her very genuine manner...honestly) thanked the audience on behalf of herself and the entire cast and crew. We were allowing them to do what they most love. That struck a nerve in me. It's true. Without an audience, we'd just look like a bunch of dorks w/ one way bus tickets to the insane asylum. It's nice to see someone of her caliber acknowledging that fact. Nice job Celine and company. More on my visit w/ old chum Monique, and our day today...including the Star Trek Experience. Good times.
