The Ultimate Movie Star

We've been DVR-ing things like mad lately. One that has been on our "books" for awhile, unwatched until today, was Joan Crawford: The Ultimate Movie Star. It's a biography of the late, great Joan, from AMC. Nothing particularly eye opening, other than as a real fan of this woman, I've seen little of her work. I feel this must be remedied. One thing that struck me, was one of the interviewees talking about how Mommie Dearest ruined her reputation, and that her image may never recover from that blow. I agree to a point, but if it hadn't been for that film, I never would have begun an interest in Joan. That's what introduced me to her, wire hangers and all. Now, I must make it my mission to educate myself on all of her work. Until then, I will call myself a Joan Crawford fan-in-training. Thought I'd post this photo of her. Stunning. I'm tempted to add young Joan to my Stew of Sin, but I'll hold off for now...seems almost disrespectful. A quick note of interest. When I first saw Mommie Dearest, as a little kid, I didn't get its cult value or the amazingly melodramatic nature of its dialogue and the over-the-top but still powerful performance by Faye Dunaway. I get it all now. What I remember about my first experience with the film, was that I cried at the end when Joan was dead. Christina was crying. The woman was dead, so I felt I should also cry. Nothing to do w/ my Joan fan-in-training status, just a fun anecdote about how naive I was. Then again, I was probably 8 years old. Anyway, mission underway. On our DVR is Flamingo Road. I know little about it, other than Joan's character is involved in the circus. I see from IMDB that she has 105 credits listed to her name, both television and film. Let the education begin.
