Random Update Number Whatever
Laundry day today. Nothing gets me harder than this. Ahem.
I'm actually feeling a bit better about my job, I'm sure due to the fact that I don't have to count on my co-workers quite as much. I can handle lots on my own now. I'm still on the lookout for some other great opportunity, but I think I can stick around here for a while if I have to.
My big, stupid post of last week (the one I wrote a week ago, but didn't post until two days ago), explained that I had written several more pages on my Simon Baker script. Since then, another 4 pages. I'm on fire. I'm meeting tomorrow night w/ friend Chris to go over ideas for query letters, contests, etc. We just want to offer moral support and suggestions for next steps. I think we could both use some good-natured pushing. I'm very excited about what's happening with the new script. I'm at about 83 pages now, and I have written a draft of the ending. I'm super happy w/ that. In addition, an important flashback sequence was also begun, and adds great dimension to my lead character (me). :)
We saw W. with Chris and Ami last weekend (when we saw Butler and Craven). It was a great deal of fun, but also a bit deeper than I expected. Josh Brolin brought great sympathy to W., and made me pause (if only for the evening) in my negative thoughts about our current prez. Good performances all around, with the exception of Thandie Newton's Condie Rice. It was fun, but had no depth. It was a caricature. I found the piece boring at times, but overall, I would recommend it. Brolin is clearly Oscar-nominee bound.
Following the film, we found our way to The Waffle, on the corner of Vine and Sunset. Great food, and hefty portions. I had an incredible tuna melt. Could it have been the late hour? Perhaps, but we will be returning there in the near future.
Jobs? Well, you all know how mine's going. The other half was not chosen to stay on in his temp-to-hire gig in Paramount. So, he's again on the prowl. He's had several interviews in the past week, one resulting in a job starting on Monday. However, there are two other possibilities on the table, two much better ones. Fingers crossed again folks. The strange thing about this time around? We barely even flinched. Hmm.
I've been missing Chicago a lot lately, but then I look outside to the California sky, and feel the 92 degree weather this afternoon, and I remember one of the big reasons why we left Chicago behind. It's late October, and we've got nothing to fear...aside from the ghouls and ghosts of the Halloween season! Yuck, yuck, yuck.
The other half's big 4-0 b-day is coming up, and I would love to get some suggestions from friends about what I can do to make it special, since we are on a tight budget. Something good. Let me know your thoughts. Don't worry, I only READ my blogs to the other half. I can leave this part out.
One of my employees made me feel great the other day...no, nothing in the back room behind closed doors. You're all sickos! He told me that when he opens his store (I still have to get details), that he would hire me. I asked him why. He said because I was a good manager. That has had a lot to do w/ my renewed confidence on the sales floor. So thanks, underling! (j/k) Also, I closed the store on my own Monday night. I was the only manager around for the last 4 hours of the day. In addition, I had to do all of the closing procedures on my own. Yes, I now have keys and a security code. I have arrived. I'm anxious for the other half and I to start settling in financially. I want to start shopping. Don't get too worried, I don't plan to bring us back to the clutter we once had, but there are a few select, fun items I would love to have. So sue me.
Well, I'll try to keep up on the blogging, but having a full time job again, takes away valuable computer time. Plus, I need to use more down time to get my script done. I think I could be close.
Later, y'all.
