So Long, John...
I've been remiss in notating the death of John Hughes. I was a bit shocked when the other half called me @ work to deliver the sad news.
We've all read the obits and reports about how he defined a generation. Well, it's all true. My movie-going experience as a kid in the 80's, would have been pretty boring without his input.
No fewer than five films which had his mark on them; either as writer, director or producer; are on my top favorite film list.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Weird Science
Uncle Buck
Pretty in Pink
National Lampoon's Vacation
In addition, there are two other films I feel should probably be added to my fave list. Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club; are clear front-runners for the next spots on my coveted list.
His films all gave me, a confirmed nerd, a clear, ominous picture of what my life would be like when I entered high school. Let's just say, I was deeply afraid.
So long, John...you will be missed.
