Writings: A Poem
Approximate Age: 19-20
Open your mouth.
Wider.
Wider.
Do you see it?
The spider.
Creeping,
Crawling,
Hunting.
Open your mouth.
Wider.
Wider.
What if it were to fall?
Keep it open.
It's right above you.
Can you see it moving?
Does a spider ever lose its footing?
Yes, the web is sticky,
but,
your mouth isn't open.
Lana--open your eyes.
The spider,
it's falling.
Open your mouth.
Wider.
Wider.
***author's note***
This was written for a college creative writing class. It's inspired by (arguably) the best moment from Wes Craven's 1981 DEADLY BLESSING. The intense and superb scene of Lana (a young Sharon Stone) trying to get some rest in the attic room of an old farmhouse--good stuff.
