2012 Year in Review
Hey all.
My usual "to do list extravaganza" will be forthcoming in another blog. For now, let's review the year that was.
Glad Obama's back in office. Romney is/was a tool.
For those living under a rock, my spec script ME & SIMON BAKER was a finalist in the screenwriting competition of the Beverly Hills Film Festival. The other half and I attended many of the events (many of them w/ friend Maggie)...including the opening night party (@ the Academy no less). One of the great revelations of this experience was that I AM a screenwriter...not "trying" to be one. It was a wonderful feeling and sense of belonging, if alas--limited to the festival and the immediate days following. Now I'm back to my old, neurotic self. It was an amazing event, where we met a slew of great people, and I received a much-needed affirmation that I'm on the right track. The script has also been sent out to two more competitions which will be announced in 2013.
I finally got TONIGHT I SHALL LEASE YOUR SOUL into a competition (the Beverly Hills Film Festival--since I had success w/ them last year, I figured it was worth another try). This is the script I wrote w/ the amazing Chris McCaleb.
I've gotten much closer to a first draft on my fourth feature spec script. This one's called A. FAMILY PORTRAIT. It's a good one, and my plan was to have a rough draft by year's end. Strange that I had the same goal last year (and was writing about this exact thing an exact year ago). While the first draft is still not complete, I am 50 more pages in that I was last year. So that's a good thing.
In other writing news, I was chosen to write an essay on a horror film (to be announced later) for the follow up to Dr. AC's Horror 101 book. I was honored and I believe the book should be forthcoming in the next year. Believe me, it's my first time being published, so I will of course keep you posted!
So I'm sure many of you are wondering what ever became of my book w/ the lovely Vanessa Puopolo...something about zombies and their 53 moods. Well, we were able to raise about 2k w/ the good people of Indie-Go-Go, and were originally scheduled to shoot the book in September. The other half was told he would need major knee surgery, so we postponed. It was all for not, since the surgery has now been booked for late January 2013. Rest assured, however, that I have renewed energy on this project's front, and BY GOD, we will see it come to fruition in 2013! Thanks to all of you for your support! And, if you're still interested in donating, you can check out our site @ www.the53zombiemoods.com. It's not to late to get your name in print as a true zombie mood supporter!
Not much traveling this year, other than a nice 5 day break to the mountains north of San Diego for a casino-filled, free-food packed, spa-adventure laced birthday break in July. It was much needed, but I am always game for more travel. This year, it just wasn't in the cards.
The other half is well. We surpassed 13 years together in June. While I continue to tout our cliche love/hate relationship, I truly do treasure having him in my life. He's annoying as all get-out, but I can count on him...and yes, as mushy as it is...I love him. Keep posted, as the Supreme Court hears the case of Prop 8...cuz the moment we can do it, we'll be tying the knot...here in CA. It's time.
I'm about to finish my 5th holiday season (and I just surpassed my 4th year) @ Z Gallerie. It continues to irk me, enlighten me, challenge me and introduce me to some very cool people. Speaking of which--
As I move into the new year, I am anxiously awaiting the follow-through on a very interesting situation which is currently brewing. I have told a few what it is, but am not yet announcing the details...I don't want to jinx it. I don't know if anything will happen. And I don't want to jinx it. Suffice to say, it could be a great opportunity and all prayers, crossed fingers and good vibes are appreciated.
I'm looking forward to 2013. I wish I could see all of you more often (if ever--been YEARS since I've seen some of you, and that's just lame), but I appreciate what the inter-webs and Facebook have provided.
Wishing you all a super new year!
Best,
Klug
