OMG!
I shouldn't be writing this at work, but I didn't want it to go by the wayside, like so many other recent events I've experienced. Babs. Oh Babs. How many times did I cry last night? About 5 or 6. How many times did I get goosebumps? About 5 or 6. How many times did I have the startling realization that I was seeing Barbra Streisand perform live? Too many to count. I don't care how nerdy or gay or unhip it may be, but it was an amazing experience last night.
First, the bad. Il Divo; the boyish psuedo operatic group; who were there as special guests; sucked. They were too loud (sound problems or them?), too schmaltzy. You see, Babs can get away w/ that. We accept that. A few numbers were a "duet" w/ Babs and the boys. She swept the floor w/ them. They may have overpowered her a few times w/ their obnoxious booming voices, but it was never unclear who was the veteran or who was the star. Sadly, one of the numbers they sang w/ her; was Evergreen. They butchered it.
Per my previous post, I got all I wanted for songs; except for anything from Yentl. Ugh. One of the main highlights of the evening was People. Wow. I'll try to give more detail later; work is calling.
