I'm Gonna Vote Tomorrow...and Other News

Tomorrow's the big day. I have a call in shift for work in the evening that I hope I won't have to attend. You see, I'd rather spend my Tuesday day/Tuesday evening/early morning Wednesday watching the polls on television. Yes, I'm that invested in this thing. I'm ready to pull an all-nighter, if need be. My vote goes to Hillary; and I hope she finds victory in the necessary states; in order to cement her front-runner status. I'm very, very excited for tomorrow. This is my Super Bowl, dammit!

Last night, I spent 7 hours @ the store; until just about midnight; helping in the floor set. It's fun to be in the store after hours. It feels relaxed and creative; despite the fact that all of the displays are pre-made by corporate; thereby taking much of the fun out of it. By evening's end, I was exhausted. Remember, we're a two story location, thus I must have traversed up and down the staircase at least fifty times. My trick knee (apparently my knee is aging faster than the rest of my body; since it sometimes feels like I've been on in for over 60 years!) was killing me.

Today was a very productive day. Friend (and talented DP) Clare arrived @ our place just after noon. We worked our fannies off; prepping for this Sunday's shoot (yes, we begin shooting in less than a week!). The other half was on hand to offer his valuable input; and, since he has been designated prop master, his suggestions in that particular department. We all went around the condo, discussing the shot list I have already put to paper, and making changes as needed. We then took several stills to help us remember the less obvious choices we had made. I'm very excited about this project. I hope it comes off as I am envisioning it. Lots to do this week. I have to go to friend David's to pick up the equipment (which he is again letting me use; also friend Chris is allowing us to use his camera again--the same camera we used for French Toast and House of Black Wings). I have gotten confirmation from friend Karyn that she will play my wife in the film. She will appear only in stills (which we have to shoot on Thursday); and in a brief cameo as a hand...nice. Also, Clare has gotten a friend on board to help us crew the shoot; at least for this first Sunday; our biggest day. The other half has to get props in order. We have most of what we need, but a few items will have to be gathered. Clare is already on top of things for some of the art items...creating a new cereal box; as well as an air freshener...a few more things are also on her list. This is coming up quick. The good thing is that we are shooting on Sunday, then on the following Sunday and Monday. This means I can begin capturing my footage as well as editing; immediately after we shoot our first day. With a deadline of the 29th, I can't waste a minute. The final thing that will require some finagling; is the use of extras. We will have to film in our hallway; a common area of our building. It's only a few quick bits; and it doesn't have to be lit (based on our quick camera testing today). I only have two extras (plus the other half) and I need at least 5. We'll see how this turns out. This is exciting, but also crazy! Wish me luck. BTW, I still have yet to confirm a name for the piece. We shall see.

So Clare stuck around for the evening; as friends David and AC (Dr. AC, Fool for Blood--to his friends) showed up for an evening of pizza, chatting and movies. We only got two movies in; a piece brought to us by David (director of HOBW); a short of his called The Lovecraft Syndrome. I have seen it before; and it was still a real treat. He's such a talented guy! Very creepy stuff and great imagery. We then watched a new film called Blood Car. A very short (about 75 minutes) horror/comedy piece. It was brutal, hysterically funny, and also had a bit of political satire...oh, and plenty of naked boobs. Basically, a geeky kindergarten teacher is trying to create a new car fuel; since gas has gone so high, that only the very wealthy are able to afford the $32/gallon prices. His attempts to formulate this new fuel from wheatgrass are ultimately fruitless. A fortunate (or is it unfortunate?) accident proves to him that blood is the fuel that will get him on the move. I'll leave the rest for you to see. Suffice to say, no one and no thing is safe in this film. Lots of great nasties!

Also, this weather is depressing! Not one lick of sunlight today; and we're expecting another half foot of snow in the next 48 hours. Give me a break!

I'm sleeping in until I can't sleep no more! Then I'm gonna go next door to vote.
