A trim in my joints, might be a Cadillac

I woke up this morning with this phrase in my head. It was a lyric to a song that was being sung by some guy; just as I was waking up. You tell me.

I've had to remember this thing all day; just to be sure I could use it for this blog title. Well, here we are.

We are no longer in Burbank, we have shifted to a more western point in the valley; Sherman Oaks. We moved from the home of The Saints Wilson to the home of Saint Leah M....just yesterday morning. So, here we go again. I don't know what day it is, what time it is, or where we are. I realized we left Chicago on March 31st...nearly two months ago...my what we have experienced since we left. We had a TREMENDOUS time w/ Lorri and Jason in Burbank. I will miss them greatly; and I will also miss their adorable pooch, Quigley. Surely Quig (as I called her--and she will remain such) is the most "licky" dog ever to grace our planet. She's a cutey; but bring your hankie when you come to visit. I can't tell The Saints Wilson how deeply we appreciate their hospitality. Now, onto Ms. Leah. She's a talented lass I worked with on House of Black Wings. She opened her home to us for (as was the case w/ The Wilsons) a 2-week stint. So with that...let me address some concerns, and give an update as to where we are currently in our adventure and where we may be headed.

1. We have no prospects for housing once our stay w/ Saint Leah M. is complete. Her roomie (a charming Brit attending UCLA) has finals for the next two weeks, and has requested a 2-week stay only. I plan to test the waters down the road a bit, and see if we might be able to extend that time. Reason being, we are still jobless.

2. The other half had two interviews late last week, and both went well. It seems clear that he will be offered both positions. That's great and all, but he would not recieve his first check for an adt'l two weeks following his start date. That means we would not have the money needed (most places are requesting first and last months rent, or first month's and a deposit) to get a place immediately after our stay w/ Saint Leah M, thus, we will need to stay longer, or find another friend to "crash" with. Aren't most folks sick to death of hearing about our woes? I'm certainly tired of dealing with our woes. Can we catch a break on the housing?

3. Friend Kate (a former college chum, and current casting associate in Santa Monica) agreed to help me in any way she could--submitting my resume for admin positions to those she thought might be able to help. In return (and cuz it benefits me as well), I agreed to go to her office to assist in an intern position...at least until I find a paying job. So, Thursday, the other half drove me (he then spent the 5 hours I worked; perusing the beach and Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica) and I organized headshots/resumes (seeing such names as Lorraine Bracco, Rory Culkin, and Gillian Anderson), answered phones, and assisted in the session for that day...nothing fancy, just telling those reading for a certain part, that they had updated sides. The first reader that day? Rosanna Arquette. She seemed sweet, and while I'm not mega-fan, I am a big fan of Desperately Seeking Susan. I wanted to tell her that, but figured with my intern status, it wouldn't be a good idea (the movie part, not the non-mega fan part). Also in that day (am I supposed to be telling all of this?) was Rick Gonzales. I knew him from War of the Worlds and from the night before; an episode (courtesy of TV fanatics Lorri and Jason) of Reaper (which was actually pretty good). Kate was pleased w/ my work, and her boss seemed very cool. Of course, they're not hiring any assistants, even though Kate said she had one before and could use one now. Damn. I'm going in again on Tuesday (assuming the other half hasn't started one of his jobs by then). Moving on.

4. One of the jobs the other half is up for; is for a collections specialist at a publishing company. The office is on Wilshire, and seems to be a pretty fun area. The office is casual (score!) and seems quite hip. I am kind of hoping he gets that one, just cuz it appears to be so prestigious...and his name would appear in the masthead. Nifty. Good luck boy! God I hope he gets it.

5. Watched Cloverfield while still @ Jason and Lorri's. Nothing great. Some fun moments, but this idea (beginning to be overused) of having to carry the camera cuz "it must be told" or "it makes things less horrific" or "it makes my penis look bigger", whatever; is just not working. It was novel in The Blair Witch Project, but let's move on. Great effects, but as usual, bad decisions by the characters, leaving me rolling my eyes far to often. To its credit however, the first moments in the party; kept me interested, and when the lights first went out on the balcony, it was a sudden reminder of what I was actually waiting for. Pretty good acting. Oh, and I love that Jason showed us the falling object in the ocean; in the final moments. Nice touch. Nice bit of trivia, friend Kate worked on casting for this film. Got some fun inside scoop.

6. I've done absolutely nothing on my films. Not my scripts, not my completed French Toast, and not my short still in post. I'm a BIG, FAT LOSER! (the other half suggested I add this next part) I have lost 15 pounds since we left Chicago. That is, unless Saint Leah M.'s scale is not working. The other half has lost 10! Could it be the stress? Yes. Could it be our better diet? No, cuz our diet hasn't changed. Could it be the exercise? No, no more happening here than in Chicago (although we did walk 8 miles in Santa Monica/Venice). My guess is that we are constantly aware of our pending homelessness and lack of funds. That'll do it folks!

7. I'm getting absolutely pumped about House of Black Wings. Based on the sudden action on the part of David (okay not sudden, just that he's been in post for awhile and with the release of the trailer, I'm seeing some movement, etc.) I think he's gonna really push this thing out there. Festivals, hopefully conventions, the whole smear. Go David and go all of us! (PS, as I stated above, I'm living w/ the lead actress right now...take that!)

8. Finally, I have been CRAVING quiet time back in our condo in Chicago. I don't think it has anything to do with Chicago, or how much we are enjoying LA. It has to do with stability, comfort and knowing where everything can be found. Right now I am yearning to be back in our beautiful blue bedroom, with our fabulous master bath right next door...the television flickering on the wall, Amy/Ben/Noah/Coors (the only stuffed toys we have with us now--the rest are on vacation in a storage locker in Phoenix) relaxing at our side...our window open, appreciating the warming weather in Chicago (after the horrid winter), our big, warm, comfy duvet, knowing that beyond our bedroom door, zombies await. I want so very badly to have some stability again. I think I've done well so far, considering what we've been up against. The travel has been fun, but in the past, we always had a place to return to, to crash in, and sentences that didn't end in prepositions. I WANT TO BE HOME AGAIN. It doesn't need to be Chicago, it just needs to be ours (not saying I want to buy right now--we can't)...with our things. Our blankets, our shower, our stuff. That's what I want right now. Stop rocking the boat; it's time to dock.

More later. God bless us everyone.
